What a No-Name Coach Taught Me About Making It Big And Going To The Olympics

…the most important coach in my Olympic career NEVER went to the Olympics. He wasn’t even an athlete. Surprised? Well, that myth that you can only learn from people who have been there IS a myth. Now sure, it helps. But what if that coach never decided to coach because he felt, “I just don’t know enough. Or, I’m not like those Olympic coaches, what can I possibly teach a young athlete trying to go to the Olympics? ”

There is information within you that can help others. You are the filter. You are the lighthouse on the shore. You’re not out there in the deep water yet but you sure as hell can keep people away from the rocks!

Unleash yourself. Don’t worry that you aren’t THE guru. Because you will be in due time and that shouldn’t keep you from helping others. There is no knight coming to dub thee “Guru” It just doesn’t happen. You’ve got to go out there and find your school of fish. Your group of people who want to learn from you.

The truth is you are able to meet people that some of the gurus will never meet! I know people who just don’t like certain teachers. Unfortunately they turn themselves off from learning a lot by tuning out that guru. You may be the person that leads them to the promised land (for lack of a better term.)

I hope that helps. So get out there. Cast off the bowlines and set sail.
